Renting a moving truck can make your move easier and cheaper than hiring a moving company

Woman driving a penske rental truck in nyc.The first thing that you need to know is that it is a lot more work to move yourself than it is to hire a moving company. Finding a moving truck to rent is not that much of a hassle at all. You do have to read the fine print carefully before you sign the contract as some rental trucks have some charges like for mileage and gas that are not revealed when you rent the truck. Most rental companies will tell you of these charges in advance but you have to make sure you understand them.

If you are renting a moving truck one way you have to make sure of the charges since you probably won't be in the same city when you are returning the truck and will not be dealing with the same person you rented the truck from.

There are some major companies that have been around for years and they are always a good place to start when searching for a truck to rent. Like we have said before one of the better places to ask is your local real estate agent. They move people all the time from your neighborhood.

I can recommend using Penske truck rental if you are moving a long distance. We have heard from many happy readers that have used them to move and all were happy with them. I had a friend use them just last year when she moved from Las Vegas to New York City and it went without a hassle. The truck was very good on gas which came as a surprise to her.

Another good tip is to pick up the local paper and look for a mover. If the job is small and local you always see ads for "Man with a truck". These local guys can save you a ton of money if the job is right.

If you want to use the yellow pages you should also check with the better business bureau. Remember to see if the company has a good insurance policy in case your valuables are damaged during the move. You may also want to check and see if this price is included in the estimate.

I like to include some tips on every page

Get on the Move Early - When you are moving plan on starting very early in the morning. You will be amazed at how fast time flies when you are moving. You want to unload your truck in the daylight if possible so getting an early start helps big time. If you are renting a truck and only moving locally you may even get to return the truck on the same day and save yourself an extra day on the rental.

Have a Good Map or GPS - Knowing the shortest route can help save you a lot of time. I always recommend a GPS unit as a good one should show you real time traffic which can save you hours in travel time. There is no worse feeling than being stuck in traffic with a full load of furniture. You can use Google directions or if you have a gps on your cell phone you can use that. Just make sure you don't drain your smart phone battery. When we used ours to move across the country we had it plugged into the cigarette lighter the whole trip.

Check the New Address twice - If you are hiring a moving company make sure they have the address of the new house. If you are meeting them at the old house also make sure they have that address also.
