What’s in a Moving Estimate?
One of the most cost effective means of moving from one destination to
another will be looking and weighing your options when it comes to movers
and shipping companies. Getting an affordable moving estimate from a
reputable company may mean the difference in sleepless nights and worry free
days. It’s important to start early, though. The sooner you know you’re in
need for a mover or shipping company the better your options and moving
estimates will be- no one likes a procrastinator.
Discuss with your family what exactly you will need when it comes to the
moving company. Would you like full service, which includes packing and
unpacking of the household items? Do you and your family have time to pack
and properly package all of the household items? Will you and your family
need any type of packing supplies, such as boxes? If so, take into
consideration that most moving companies will not ship or be responsible for
items that are packed in unauthorized containers. Therefore, you may want to
calculate the expense of supplies into the moving estimate.
Although, most moving estimates are based upon weight and destination you
will also need to consider other costs like manpower, the number of moving
vans needed, consider the availability of the move; are you located where a
moving van or vans will have any accessibility? Believe it or not, but
movers often charge more for those customers who have stairs or tight areas
to maneuver a moving van.
A moving estimate should include any type of liability insurance, as well.
Although, many moving companies offer some type of basic liability insurance
in the initial costs, it’s usually based upon weight, and often times does
not nearly cover the costs of replacement items.
Prior to receiving any type of moving estimate, make a
checklist with what
you want and try and include every obstacle you think a mover might
encounter when moving your belongings. Be sure to ask the moving company for
a written moving estimate, as well. Although, most state laws require
payment prior to unloading the contents at the destination, never pay a
mover without checking the Bill of Lading and its contents. |
