Free Moving Box - Why getting boxes for free just doesn't cut it most of
the time
You would think that getting free moving boxes would be a good thing, well I
am here to tell you that it could be a big mistake. Let me explain why
getting a free moving box is not all that it's cracked up to be.
The first time that me and my wife Terry moved from Atlanta to Bangor
Maine I thought I had it all figured out. I would search around and ask my
local grocery store guys if they could save me boxes that I could use for
when I move.
Most of the grocers were happy to comply as these boxes were only going to
be thrown away and I was actually doing them a favor by taking them off
their hands. They usually get charged by their garbage man so in fact I was
saving them space and money at the same time.
Now that I had all the boxes I could use and most of them looked like they
were in great kind of new shape. I took them home and the bride was happy.
She spent two days putting all the valuables and delicate items like plates
and dishes and stuff. Carefully wrapping them in newspaper and
bubble wrap
and securing the box so that it would be ready when the truck came.
That Saturday morning the moving truck was in the driveway and I was starting to
load it when I lifted up a box and the bottom fell out. This is the one
thing that you don't want to happen to you. The box that broke had the china
that was a wedding gift from my wife's grand parents that are no longer with
us.
When my wife came out of the house after hearing the crash she went
hysterical as you could imagine. Needless to say that for the rest of the
week I was a bad guy. Let me tell you this was the longest ride of my life
and I am sure it wasn't pleasant for her either.
She blamed me for being cheap and not wanting to buy cardboard boxes for our
move. As you guys could imagine it was not fun in the new house for a while.
I was in the doghouse as they say.
This is the main reason that I decided to start this website so other cheap
guys like me don't make that same mistake and cut corners just trying to
save a buck or two.
Do yourself a favor and get quality moving supplies
in the long run it will pay off.
